Something Wonderful? by Valerie Cheers Brown

All of the protest movements of the 1960s captured public attention and raised questions that were important to the nation. The civil rights movement, the women’s movement, and the gay rights movement demanded that Americans consider equality for all citizens in the United States. The student movement probed the meaning of freedom in the United States. The anti-Vietnam War movement asked Americans to consider the use of national power and the appropriateness of their government’s foreign policy. Environmentalists asked what good America’s economic growth was if it resulted in the destruction of the planet.”

Don’t you feel it?

I mean something wonderful is about to happen in this country!

I feel like I am back in the 1960’s when lots of things were fought for.

Let’s take a look at the ‘Protests in the 1960’s:”

These developments incorporate the civil right’s movement, the student movement, the counter Vietnam War development, the women’s movement, the gay rights movement, and the environment movement. Each, to shifting degrees, changed government approach and, maybe more vitally, changed how practically every American lives today.

Supporters of these developments addressed customary practices about how individuals were dealt with. Why did high contrast youngsters go to separate schools? Why were ladies kept from holding certain employments? Why could a man be drafted at 18 yet not ready to vote until 21? This scrutinizing propelled individuals to start sorting out developments to battle against treachery and for equivalent rights for all individuals.

What’s more, they didn’t utilize conventional techniques for political action. Rather than voting in favor of a political hopeful and afterward trusting that the chose authority would make great strategies, these nonconformists had confidence in a more straightforward majority rule government. They made direct move—open walks, picketing, sit-ins, energizes, appeal to drives, and protests—to win proselytes to their causes and change open strategies at the neighborhood, state, and government levels. They contributed their time, vitality, and enthusiasm with the trust of improving an, all the more only society for all.

Environmental Movement

Americans’ worry about the indigenous habitat has a long history, yet just in the late 1960s when such a variety of Americans had turned out to be politically dynamic did a mass development rise that concentrated on ensuring the earth. Scientist Rachel Carson added to this enlivening with her top of the line book, Silent Spring (1962). She point by point the utilization of concoction bug sprays that slaughtered winged creatures, fish, and creatures and jeopardized the human species. Many different books took after Carson’s, cautioning of approaching natural debacles. Broadcast scope of natural debacles, similar to the 1969 oil slick off the shore of southern California, promote spread the caution. In the late 1960s, natural activists utilized this data to enroll an as of now politicized citizenry in another mass development.

In 1970 somewhere in the range of 20 million Americans accumulated for what coordinators called Earth Day to challenge mishandle of nature. Getting a strategy from the counter Vietnam War development, understudies and educators at more than 1500 schools and colleges and at more than 10,000 schools held protests on the earth. A huge number of different Americans arranged challenges and mobilizes around the country. In another unmistakable indication of another ecological cognizance, a great many residents joined natural gatherings like the Audubon Society, whose participation developed from 41,000 in 1962 to 400,000 in 1980.

In light of developing subject dissents, Congress passed the National Environmental Act in 1970. The demonstration made the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to control ecological wellbeing perils and the utilization of normal assets. By and large, in the 1970s Congress passed 18 new laws to secure the regular habitat, including the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, which set up national air-and water-quality norms. At both a nearby and a national level, subjects united to preserve regular assets, utilize and create elective, cleaner types of vitality, request strict control of poisons, and advance a general familiarity with the interconnectedness and interdependency of all life. By the late 1970s, a significant part of the ecological development’s motivation had entered standard governmental issues.

Conclusion

Lots happened because people did not give up and made things happen.  I feel like I am back in the 1960’s when movements meant something.  I was only seven (7) yeas of age, but I can remember us watching all this happening on the television and we had to write about what we thought when in school about the 1960’s.

A greater part of Americans objected to each of these social change developments when they rose. The activists’ dependence on challenge strategies that disturbed the same old thing maddened many, as did their requests that Americans change their long-standing convictions and practices. In the 1960s, the social liberties development, the understudy development, and the antiwar development confronted genuine provocation and even abuse by nearby police constrains, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other government organizations. The understudy development, the counter Vietnam War development, and the gay rights development never prevailing with regards to winning the endorsement of a dominant part of Americans, in any event as measured by popular assessment surveys and reviews. After some time, notwithstanding, the social liberties development, the ecological development, and, all the more disputably, the ladies’ development, converted a lion’s share of Americans to large portions of their perspectives.

The greater part of the challenge developments of the 1960s caught open consideration and brought up issues that were critical to the country. The social equality development, the ladies’ development, and the gay rights development requested that Americans consider uniformity for all subjects in the United States. The understudy development examined the importance of opportunity in the United States. The counter Vietnam War development solicited Americans to consider the utilization from national power and the propriety of their administration’s outside approach. Preservationists asked what great America’s monetary development was whether it brought about the obliteration of the planet.

In a frequently angry way, development activists asked troublesome inquiries that numerous Americans would rather have disregarded. In noting these inquiries, Americans changed drastically. Parallel open door and equivalent rights turned into the tradition that must be adhered to for American natives paying little respect to their race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. The smoke screen that encompassed quite a bit of American outside strategy was, at any rate halfway, expelled. The wellbeing of the country’s surroundings turned into a national need. Law based activism at the neighborhood and national levels and resident oversight of government authorities got to be acknowledged exercises.

Something wonderful is about to happen and I feel it and God is showing me in so many ways because He has had me and many activist working overtime!

History is being made as we speak.
